electing and introducing Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei as the third Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Assembly of Experts with an absolute majority of votes elected Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei as the third Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The statement of the Assembly of Experts is as follows:

In the Name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful

Noble and free nation of Islamic Iran, may the peace and blessings of God be upon you.

While offering condolences on the martyrdom of the late Supreme Leader, His Eminence Ayatollah al-Uzma Imam Khamenei (may God sanctify his soul) and other esteemed martyrs—particularly the high-ranking commanders of the Armed Forces and the students of the Shajareh Tayyibah school in Minab—and condemning the brutal aggression of the criminal United States and the wicked Zionist regime, the Assembly of Experts hereby informs the public:

Immediately following the news of the martyrdom and heavenly ascension of the wise and sagacious Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and despite the acute state of war, direct threats from enemies against this popular institution, and the bombing of the Assembly’s secretariat offices—which resulted in the martyrdom of several staff members and security personnel—this Assembly did not hesitate for a moment in the process of selecting and introducing the leadership of the Islamic system.

In accordance with the duties stipulated in the Constitutional law and the internal regulations of the Assembly of Experts, the necessary measures and arrangements for holding an extraordinary session to introduce the new Leader were placed on the agenda. Appropriate planning and coordination were carried out to convene the honorable representatives from across the country so that, despite the prudent provisions in Article 111 of the Constitutional law for forming a temporary council, the country would not face a leadership vacuum.

Honoring the lofty status of the Wilayat al-Faqih during the Occultation of the Imam of the Age (may Allah hasten his reappearance), and recognizing the vital importance of leadership in the Islamic Republic, the Assembly of Experts honors 47 years of wise governance based on the principles of dignity, independence, and authority established by the late two Imams of the Revolution. While commemorating those divine and popular leaders, the Assembly declares that after precise and extensive deliberations and utilizing the capacity of Article 108 of the Constitutional law, and in accordance with its religious duty and belief in the presence of the Almighty, it has—in today’s extraordinary session—elected and introduced Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei (may God protect him) as the third Supreme Leader of the holy system of the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on the absolute majority of votes from the honorable representatives.

In conclusion, while expressing gratitude to the members of the Temporary Council under Article 111 of the Constitutional law, we invite the noble nation of Iran—especially the elites and scholars of the seminaries and universities—to pledge allegiance to the Leadership and maintain unity around the axis of the Wilayat. We pray for the continued grace and favor of the Almighty upon this country and its great people.
